Buildings Part 4 - The Train Washer
There are four sections to the buildings section and, for ease of navigation, a link to each of the other three pages is listed below - though you can navigate yourself sequentially through this section using the links at the bottom of each page should you so wish - so that you don't have to navigate your way through all four pages of this section if you don't want to!

Part 4 - The Train Washer
Southern Region Train Washer circa 1980's
Ok, so it's on to the train washer. I've got a few pics of a prototype - I'd put them up on the website but I'm certain they're copyrighted so it would be illegal to do without the copyright holder's permission. They've been useful in helping me model the shell.
The first piece cut to size
What I did was to buy some Ratio corrugated sheet from their builder series. I then did a bit of an estimate in terms of what size to cut the sheets to. Not having the exact measurements meant that I had to look at the photos I have got of the train washer. They all showed a train going through them so I had a reference for what size to cut the sheets to. The first parts I cut were the front and back. First of all I cut the sheets to size. It was mighty hard work as I could not find my razor saw. Instead I had to resort to using a scalpel and repeatedly score the sheet until I was able to cut through it. I won't make that mistake again. I'll be going out and buying a new saw in the New Year. By then the grooves in my hand from where the scalpel dug in while I was scoring the sheet might have disappeared!
The next stage was to cut the slope for the roof. Again I estimated where to mark the card from the photos and then scored it lightly. Then it was back to cutting the sheet with the scalpel.
I haven't documented the rest of the construction I've done as yet due to some ongoing medical problems but I have taken some work-in-progress photos of the modelling I've done to date. Some of these photos have been put online and, if you click on the thumbnails images below, a larger image will be loaded in a new page.

As with most aspects of this project, the buildings has it's own forum devoted to it on the site's forum. A link to the forum has been included below, should you be interested.
